Organizational Points:
Teacher can direct students to stay with their partner from the previous drill or find a new partner.

Students should line up with one partner's back to the net and the other partner 5-8 feet away.

Rules:

  • Start the drill with an underhand toss
  • One partner toss for 1 minute and then switch
  • Only forearm passes allowed
Questions:
How should your arms look when you pass the ball?
They should be straight and have a flat platform.
What do your legs do when forearm passing?
It is like you are standing up - bent and then as you make contact straight.

Extensions:
Tossers can make their partner move by tossing to the left or right of the passer.  Start with one direction only.  Passer should always return to a neutral position.

Instead of tossing and passing, pass continuously between partners.  As students become more proficient, they can count how many they can do in a row.

Pass continuously but make your partner move left or right.  Always return to a neutral position.

The above drills can also be used with the overhead pass or both types of passes.

By combining skills (forearm pass, overhead pass and down ball)  students will be playing a game called pepper.
